Holiday Soirée

The Independent hosted a Holiday Soirée on December 10th and 11th. Guests enjoyed fabulous shopping from local vendors, tasty treats and holiday cheer. Local charities dropped business cards into a hat for the chance to win a portion of the sales. The lucky winners were Phoenix Family and Variety Children’s Charity. A great time was had by all.

Congratulations, Lindsay & Niles!

Mr. Martin and Dr. Lucinda Vogtsberger of Columbus, Ohio, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lindsay Sears Vogtsberger, to Niles Ericsson Jager, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Thor Jager of Mission Hills. The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mrs. Henry Vogtsberger of Bowling Green, Ohio, and the late Dr. Vogtsberger and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Phillips. Lindsay is a graduate of The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio.

Crib Note – Boden Kendall Schoenthaler

A darling baby boy named Boden Kendall Schoenthaler arrived on November 10th to proud parents Kimberly Wilkerson and Chad Schoenthaler of Fairway. Bode joins his big sister Emmaline Elise, age four. This young fellow weighed eight pounds, one ounce and was 20 inches long. Bode has blue eyes and brown hair. His grandparents are Adrienne and Steve Melcher of Prairie Village, Pat and Terry Schoenthaler of Ellis, Kansas, and the late Bill Wilkerson.

Crib Note – Thomas Richard Maughan

A blue bundle of joy named Thomas Richard Maughan was born on September 2nd to proud parents Lacey and Kevin Maughan of Telluride, Colorado. Thomas weighed eight pounds, three ounces and was 21 inches long. He has blue eyes and blond hair. Thomas’ delighted grandparents are Ginger and Dick Owen of Mission Hills and Susan and Gary Maughan of Overland Park.

Cheers to Volunteers – Powell Gardens

Retired people, college interns, teens fulfilling community service for school credit, master gardeners, and master naturalists all find a place to volunteer at Powell Gardens. It takes a lot of people working hard and having fun at the same time to make Powell Gardens the beautiful place it is.
