Mr. and Mrs. Steven B. Glassman of Our Town and Dr. and Mrs. Stephen L. Stoops of Orlando, Florida, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Sydney Lear Stoops, to Joshua Andrew Bruner, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lewis Bruner of Hickory, North Carolina. The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Yancey Eubank of Leawood and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wendel Stoops. Sydney is a graduate of The Pembroke Hill School.

The Friends of Chamber Music – Soirée 2016

Soirée 2016, a benefit for The Friends of Chamber Music, will be held on April 23rd at The American. Guests will celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary and enjoy a gourmet dinner with fine wines, silent and live auctions and a live performance by a world-class ensemble. Ellen and Irv Hockaday are the honorary chairmen, and Jeanne Sosland and Ann Readey are serving as co-chairmen.

Spotlight On Centurions  – Christie Hammond

Christie Hammond is a member of Centurions, class of 2016. She serves as co-chairman of the communications committee and will offer leadership on the upcoming Sports and Entertainment Task Force. Christie is the executive director of Hope Network, a faith-based social services agency in Raytown. She volunteers with Mother’s Refuge, a shelter for homeless teen moms. Christie and her husband, Shunton, have two children, Aniston and Adelyn.

[Name Dropping] Crescendo: New Mood Rising

The UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance will showcase more than 250 students and faculty during one of Our Town’s premier events, Crescendo: New Mood Rising, on November 6th. This celebration of talent will be held at the world-class Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. 
Like a prism that bounces light around a room, this fast-paced concert will take guests quickly around Helzberg Hall, from a jazz combo to a violin soloist, from a wildly exciting dancer to a soaring orchestra.

The American Royal – The Royal on the Rooftop

The Polsinelli Building on the Plaza was the perfect setting for The American Royal Chairman’s Club’s The Royal on the Rooftop. More than 150 young professionals enjoyed the August 6th event. Members of the Chairman’s Club act as ambassadors for the American Royal and help to recruit new supports for the Royal.
