YMCA of Greater Kansas City
April 25th was the date for the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s Challenger Program’s Challenge Your Fashion at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center. The festive event featured dinner, silent and live auctions and a celebrity-filled fashion show with styles from Dillard’s and Meierotto Jewelers. Proceeds support the expansion of the Fred and Shirley Pryor YMCA Challenger Sports Complex and Challenger programs across Our Town.

March for Babies Kansas City

Sweet Babies
The March of Dimes’ March for Babies Kansas City was held on May 3rd at the Kansas City Power & Light District. Ten thousand walkers participated in this event.

Blue Ribbon Burgers & Brews

First Rate Fun
The Child Abuse Prevention Association’s (CAPA) Blue Ribbon Burgers & Brews was held on April 17th at Longview Mansion. Carol Sours served as the chairman. More than 200 guests enjoyed a silent auction, a raffle and unique tastings from local eateries and brews from top breweries, including Abita and KC Bier Company. Proceeds support CAPA’s child abuse prevention efforts.

Beckham Douglas Steele

Crib Note
A blue bundle of joy named Beckham Douglas Steele arrived on December 12th. He weighed seven pounds, 11 ounces. Beckham has blue eyes and brown hair. His proud parents are Kristen and Stephen Steele of Tucson, Arizona. Grandparents Leigh and Douglas Briggs of Olathe and Susanne and Kendall Steele of Phoenix, Arizona, are thrilled with this adorable addition to the family.

Under a Harvest Moon

Farm to Table Dinner 
Powell Gardens is the beautiful setting for Under a Harvest Moon – Farm to Table Dinner on September 20th. Annette and Dennis Young are the honorary chairmen, and Hillary McCoy and Anne Riker Powell are serving as co-chairmen. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception in the Heartland Harvest Garden, followed by an elegant dinner with wine pairings served at two long tables beneath the eaves of the Missouri Barn.
