First Call Alcohol/Drug Prevention & Recovery

September 16th was the date for First Call Alcohol/Drug Prevention & Recovery’s fourth annual Celebration Evening, A Night of Recovery and Hope with Chris Herren at the College Basketball Experience. Lena Price and Tom Cohen served as event chairmen. The event began with a Sponsors’ Party and Reception featuring hors d’oeuvres and silent and live auctions. Former NBA guard Chris Herren was the keynote speaker.

Nuptial
Cayla Kathleen Gebhardt and Tyler Perry Atha were married on July 26th at Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa in La Jolla, California. The bride is the daughter of Laurie L. Nicoll of Aliso Viejo, California, and the late Mr. Ronald Gebhardt. Cayla is the granddaughter of Sharon V. Nicoll of Riverside, California, and James C. Nicoll of Newport Beach, California. Her groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Atha of Prairie Village.

Dinner of Note

Heartland Men’s Chorus
The 29th season of the Friends of the Heartland Men’s Chorus kicked off at Dinner of Note on October 4th. Guests enjoyed a “Moulin Rouge Masquerade” theme, strolling performers, mimes, Can Can dancers, jugglers, and entertainment by the Mighty Nish Band. The first concert of the Heartland Men’s Chorus season, Kansas City Christmas, will be performed at the Folly Theatre on December 5th through the 7th.

Stephanie Sheldon

Stephanie Sheldon’s placement on the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri’s Habitat for Humanity Truman Heritage Committee inspired her to pursue hands-on voluntarism in a new way. She recently traveled to Ghana where she spent three weeks mixing cement, painting, and playing with children for One Wish Africa, a soon-to-be women’s empowerment center.
