HALO ArtReach Auction

Jody and Bryan Albers and Sarah Strnad were the honorary co-chairmen for the 12th Annual HALO ArtReach Auction, “This is my story. Will you listen?” The February 24th event featured orphan artwork from around the world and artwork from nationally-recognized artists. 

Artist William Buchina’s “Reaching Summits” was inspired by HALO Child Gerald. HALO volunteers Amy Van Drunen, Sara Barati and Julianne Delessio displayed artwork during the live auction.

Spotlight on Centurions – Father Justin Mathews

Father Justin Mathews is a Centurion, class of 2018. He serves on the steering committee and is a member of the Law and Order Task Force. Father Justin is the priest at St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Christian Church and the executive director at Reconciliation Services. Father Justin is a passionate community builder, committed to serving the area surrounding 31st and Troost, where he lives with his wife Jodi and their sons, Elias, Asher and Hayden.

Congratulations, Betsy & John!

Mr. and Mrs. George Willard Morris, Jr. of Prairie Village are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Gray Morris, to John Robert McGovern, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Charles McGovern of Warsaw, Missouri. Betsy is a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in international studies from Baylor University. Betsy was a Jewel Ball debutante in 2009. She is a member of Chi Omega sorority.

2017 CLASS OF RISING STARS – DOLLY WOOD

Dolly Wood is an occupational therapist at The University of Kansas Hospital and is a member of the 2017 Class of Rising Stars. Said Rachel Sexton, VPR Creative Group: “I met Dolly when I was a first-year active member of The Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri, and she was my committee chairman, leading us on a year-long project for the Brain Injury Association.

Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey – INSPIRE Benefit

March 4th was the date for Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey’s INSPIRE Benefit. Lindsey Heinz and Tim McCoy served as the co-chairmen. The annual event featured an evocative performance by world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Yardley Hall at Johnson County Community College, followed by drinks, dancing and access to the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art Galleries.
