In the Spotlight

Debbie Ward and Ann Jandl are the co-chairmen for Great Plains SPCA’s Pawtini. The event will be held on March 29th at the Muehlebach Tower of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown and will feature a “Seeing Spots” theme. Guests will celebrate the tremendous growth that the no-kill animal welfare agency has achieved during the past year and help build a brighter future for thousands of pets and the people whose lives they enrich.

December 5th was the date for The Kansas City Art Institute’s first-ever Patron Preview. Pam and Gary Gradinger were the chairmen of the event which was held the evening prior to the weekend-long end-of-semester exhibition and sale.

Nancy Smithyman

Nancy Smithyman has been the CASA volunteer for ‘Eva’ since she was 13 years old. Together, Nancy and Eva endured the many twists and turns of the foster care system, including foster homes, hospital stays and therapy and counseling sessions. Today, having graduated from high school, Eva has begun life as a college student. CASA of Johnson and Wyandotte Counties sincerely thanks Nancy for her consistent and thorough care of Eva these past five years.

Ellen Zimmer Darling

Ellen Zimmer Darling (Mrs. Albert Darling, Jr.) will serve as chairman of the 60th anniversary jubilee of The Jewel Ball, which will be held on June 21st at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Ellen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Joseph Zimmer. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Bartlett and the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert William Zimmer. Ellen was a page in The Jewel Ball in 1968 and was a debutante in 1978. Her mother, Mrs.

Hearts Social Club Auction

HeARTs Matter
We were thrilled to attend the first-ever Hearts Social Club event at the VML Wise Gallery recently. Hosted by Alisa and Scribe Ross, guests gathered to view amazing works of art from local and national artists. During the past few months, artists have gathered in Town to create one-of-a-kind artwork on wooden cutout hearts. Guests chose their favorites, placed their bids and went home with fantastic pieces, all to benefit Guests Services at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
