Melynn Sight has known Barnett Helzberg, founder of University Academy, all of her life. She was a Helzberg Leadership Fellow, and Barnett was her mother’s elementary school sweetheart. Melynn is now volunteering at University Academy in a unique anti-bullying curriculum, Step Up Sisterhood, which was developed by Synergy Services’ STOP Violence program. Melynn meets with a group of nine-year-old girls on a monthly basis to discuss bullying, rumors or injustices.
Eric Hofmann, Julie Shuss and Sean Burrell are dedicated to impacting the health of children, their families and communities through reactive and preventative initiatives at First Hand Foundation. Eric is a founding member of the Rolling for First Hand motorcycle ride, Julie is the silent auction lead for the Masquerade Ball and Sean Burrell is a founding member of the First Hand Ambassadors Board committee.
Dr. Ronan Tynan, Paralympics champion, renowned Irish tenor and orthopedic physician; is the keynote speaker for Truman Medical Center Charitable Foundation’s White Coat Gala at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. The April 9th event will celebrate Truman Medical Center’s 40th anniversary. Rachael and Dr. Nelson Sabates are serving as the chairmen.
MOCSA’s 2016 Community Luncheon will be held on May 6th at the Muehlebach Tower of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. Jeffrey S. Bucholtz, co-director of We End Violence; is the keynote speaker. Carole and Bill Cobb and Debbie and Kevin Crull are serving as honorary co-chairmen.
April 9th is the date for Variety Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City’s Variety Show 2016 at Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland. Shirley Pryor is serving as the honorary chairman. Guests will enjoy performances from a variety of local entertainers and a special finale by Gary Gulman, comedian from Last Comic Standing.
