17th Annual Dinner of Note

A Singing Donation
Heartland Men’s Chorus chose LIKEME Lighthouse as co-beneficiary of the 17th annual Dinner of Note on October 13th at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. Heartland Men’s Chorus has been singing out as Kansas City’s gay men’s chorus for 27 years in Our Town and chose the new LIKEME Lighthouse LGBT community center in Midtown as its first co-beneficiary because they share a common mission.

Project Poochie

Fashion Forward
The fourth annual Project Poochie featured 50 shelter alumni dogs strutting the runway on October 14th, in designs from Diane VonFurstenbone, Barktoria’s Secret, Yves St. Bernard, and many more. Proceeds from Project Poochie benefited the SASSYfund, which helps realize the financial burden that unscheduled pet expenses can cause for seniors on a fixed income.

Truman Medical Center’s Behavior Health Sciences

Benefit at the Bristol
The 17th annual Benefit at the Bristol was held on October 15th at the Bristol Seafood Grill in Leawood. Janet and Ron Reimer were the honorary chairmen, and Ann and John Sundeen served as the chairmen. More than 300 guests helped to make this event the most successful ever. Special guests were Senia and Will Shields, who are strong advocates for mental health services in Our Town. Proceeds benefited Truman Medical Center’s Behavior Health Sciences.

Youth Volunteer Corps

Home Sweet Home
The Youth Volunteer Corps, a national organization devoted to creating meaningful service projects for youth, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. YVC welcomed nearly 100 guests to its new office in the Brockett House for an Open House on October 8th. The move was made possible by a grant from the Sunderland Foundation.

Dinner of Note
Dinner of Note, a benefit for the Heartland Men’s Chorus and the LIKEME Lighthouse, was held on October 13th at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. Michele Stauffer and Cathy Jambrosic were the honorary co-chairmen, and Marce Baxley and Alan Nelis served as the co-chairmen. Guests enjoyed dinner, dancing, auctions, and entertainment by country music star and Lighthouse founder, Chely Wright.
