Crescendo: New Mood Rising

Volunteers from the Friends of UMKC’s Conservatory of Music and Dance gathered on September 15th at Lisa Schellhorn’s beautiful home to prepare invitations for Crescendo. Sherry and Gary Forsee are the honorary chairmen, and Melanie and Mike Fenske are serving as chairmen of Crescendo: New Mood Rising on November 6th at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

Kansas City Young Matrons – Land Exchange Ceremony

September 12th was the date when Kansas City Young Matrons’ clubhouse moved from its address at 5100 Oak Street to its new location at 5211 Cherry Street. Members, neighbors and the community at large turned out to watch the slow, steady progress of a house on wheels. Van Trust Realty provided a delicious lunch and a Land Exchange Ceremony took place between UMKC Chancellor Leo Morton and Bonne Illig, KCYM representative.

Kansas City Young Matrons – Reassembly Day Tea

The Kansas City Young Matrons┬ákicked off its club year at the Reassembly Day Tea. The event was held in the organization’s temporary quarters at the Central United Methodist Church. Members enjoyed a delicious brunch and caught up on all of their summer adventures. Two days earlier, KCYM’s clubhouse moved down Oak Street to its beautiful new setting.

Giving the Basics – Madminton Tournament

More than 75 teams gathered on September 13th at Theis Park to play madminton. Our Town’s first Madminton Tournament raised funds for Giving the Basics, an organization that provides free personal care hygiene items that are not covered by food stamps to shelters, pantries and local schools. Players had a wonderful time dressing up in costumes and playing badminton.
