January 24th was the date for the annual Winter Meeting for the Ambassadors of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Guests enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres at the Grand Street Cafe. Special entertainment was provided by Shanice Hayes and Maurice Hayes. The father and daughter vocalist team from Our Town were finalists on the television show, America’s Got Talent. Dick Fagerberg and Jim Prevost were the featured speakers.
Rising Stars, Class of 2011
Mary and Richard Wetzel were members of the Rising Stars, Class of 2011 and their service and commitment to our community has continued. They are the co-chairmen for the Kansas City Art Institute’s Art and Design Auction on June 1st at the KCAI campus.

Tariq Abdullah is a member of the 2014 class of Centurions and serves on its recruiting committee and Wild Card Task Force. Tariq currently serves as the general counsel, compliance officer and assistant secretary at the Kansas Bioscience Authority. The KBA makes strategic investments in public and private entities, with the goal of making Kansas the nation’s leader in bioscience business and innovation. Tariq lives in Lee’s Summit with his wife and two children.

May 3rd is the date for Books & Boutiques, Saint Luke’s South Hospital’s annual fundraiser at the Overland Park Convention Center. Alex George, best-selling author of A Good American, is the featured speaker. Guests will enjoy a spring fashion show, delicious lunch and fabulous shopping from local boutiques. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hospital’s new infusion center.
The Hats Off to Mothers Luncheon will celebrate its 10th anniversary on May 10th at the Muehlebach Tower of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. Patricia Scott is the chairman. The event will honor ten mothers in the Kansas City area who have the remarkable ability to balance family life, personal achievement and civic engagement. Proceeds from the Luncheon benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Kansas City.
