Our Town is turning up the heat for the Pepper Party on September 4th at the City Market! Head on down and enjoy a selection of fresh, locally grown peppers available for purchase throughout the Market. There will also be plenty of fun activities for the whole family, including a fiery “flash performance,” a hot pepper toss, pass the pepper games, and a Peter Piper Pepper Tongue Twister Contest sponsored by 105 Jack FM. Also, the University of Missouri Extension will provide yummy recipe taste testing meant to inspire quick menu ideas. The Pepper Party is a continuation of the Farm to Table Festival Series, so make sure you mark your calendars today!

KayCee Bartending Competition

Get ready to see martini shakers flying and mixology at its finest during the fourth annual Greater Kansas City Bartending Competition on August 29th at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City. This is the largest Competition of its kind in the Midwest and bartenders from all over the country submitted unique cocktail creations to be considered. Only 12 finalists were chosen and will mix up their drinks in front of a live audience and create one classic cocktail for the judges. The top 3 finishers win cash prizes and national press. The event will also include delicious refreshments and entertainment in the Nowhere Lounge.

26th Annual “Pork Out” Event

The 26th annual “Pork Out” will be hosted by the Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders at the Airline History Museum in Kansas City on October 2nd. Guests will enjoy live and silent auctions, tours of the Airline History Museum, a delicious barbeque dinner, and a live band! Proceeds from the event will benefit the Joshua Center, which is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs designed to improve the lives of individuals and families living with neurological disorders. Going Loco For Local

Some of the best chefs and restaurants in Our Town are joining forces for the unique event foodNow, a volunteer gala where local farmers and local chefs come together to raise awareness for local, healthier eating. FoodNow will be held on Saturday, August 28th, in the historical Stowe Hardware Building. The evening will include delicious appetizers and a three course meal prepared by 17 chefs from various restaurants including Blanc Burgers + Bottles, Bo Ling’s, Brio Tuscan Grille, The Classic Cup, and Pacha Mamas. The New Arrowhead: New Body, Same Soul

Fans can get a free preview of the New Arrowhead Stadium when the Chiefs conduct a practice open to the general public on August 25th. In celebration of the venue’s grand opening, KayCee residents will also enjoy the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Honor presented by Time Warner Cable. The Hall of Honor will include interactive media displays and exhibits that highlight the rich history of the football franchise. We wish the Chiefs a great season!

Boulevard of Dreams

Help make a child’s dream come true this year and attend the 2^nd Annual Boulevard of Dreams event on Friday, August 6^th at the Boulevard Brewery. The event will be hosted by Larry Moore of KMBC-TV 9 and includes a fun-filled night of delicious food and drink, music from Reddell Productions, live and silent auctions, and a presentation from last years’ dream recipient. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Dream Factory of Greater Kansas City to help grant the Dreams of two children suffering from Cystic Fibrosis.
