Neighborhoods in Our Town

North of the River

Just the briefest of drives over the Missouri River takes you to some of the most eclectic and unique shopping in Our Town. In Kansas City North you’ll find Briarcliff Village, with its locally-owned shops ranging from luxury jewelry, one-of-a-kind home furnishings, delicious eateries to restaurants, and an organic grocery.  A bit west is Parkville, a quaint place with a small-town feel where you can do some serious shopping at the many clothing and home décor boutiques, outstanding restaurants and quality antique shops.  Just north on Highway 29 is Zona Rosa, a shopping destination with a multitude of shops and every type of fantastic fare imaginable in their many restaurants.  While the Northland might not be on your way home, it is definitely worth a trip to sample some of Our Town’s finest restaurants, interesting shops and friendly folks.

Downtown

So much is happening in Downtown KayCee!  The Power & Light District is an area with something for everyone…terrific shopping, numerous eateries from sandwich shops to fine dining and outstanding entertainment venues.  Whether you are coming to the District to take in a show at the fabulous Sprint Center, or simply sample one of the terrific dining establishments, take in a live show at the Midland Theater, knock down the pins at Lucky Strike Bowling, or view a movie at the new AMC theatre, the Power & Light District is the hot spot to see and be seen.

Crossroads/Crown Center

While geographically close, these two districts offer a unique abundance to residents and visitors of Our Town.  The Crossroads District is flush with fab galleries and shops that sell everything from awesome home furnishings to artisan chocolates.  Host of First Fridays, one of the hottest events in town, the Crossroads is the place where the eclectic excitement is palpable and not to be missed.  Crown Center is a family-friendly destination shopping and eating indoor experience.  Restaurants range from quick and easy to the unparalleled American Restaurant, a staple in KayCee fine dining. Shop for the kids or for yourself, splish in the splash park, or take in a show at the Coterie Theatre.  Come early and spend the day!

Downtown Skyline

Westport/Plaza

Whether it’s nightlife you crave or some of the best shopping in town, the Westport/Plaza area can fill the bill.  The eateries and drinking establishments in Westport draw partygoers every night, but by day you can catch a great meal and people watch.  The Country Club Plaza is world famous for its spectacular Spanish architecture, high-end shopping at more than 150 shops and dozens of restaurants that offer dining for elegant experiences to simple tastes. A movie theatre completes the area.  Dressed up or down, you’ll feel right at home at the pedestrian-friendly Plaza.  Park, walk and shop to your heart’s content.

Brookside/Waldo

Right in the middle of some of Our Town’s most close-knit neighborhoods, there is an old-fashioned shopping experience reminiscent of small town shopping with big city choices.  Brookside teems with shops and eateries, a gourmet grocery and some of the best ice cream in the city.  Waldo is an eclectic mix of dining, home furnishings, a sweet shop all surrounded by quaint neighborhoods.  With eatery choices from pizza to pub fare, these are shopping and dining experiences that are not to be missed.

North Johnson County

North JoCo is a special place, where small suburban streets swell with sensational shopping.  In Fairway you’ll find a fabulous florist, couture clothing shops and much more.  Prairie Village boasts a shopping center that possesses everything your heart desires… jewels, housewares, hardware, restaurants and an incredible day spa.  It’s an outdoor mall with big city amenities in a small friendly atmosphere.  Corinth Shops feature not only wonderful shopping for all tastes and styles but also special fun events for adults and kids… just watch our pages for updates on all of the action.

South Johnson County

So much to see and do in South JoCo, you’ll be hard pressed to make it a day trip… so plan on two!  The area is a virtual mecca of shopping, where you can find luxury items to wear, fabulous fare to taste, super scents and body products to pamper yourself… you name it, and South JoCo has it.  Whether you are picking up luxe items in Hawthorne Plaza, shopping the sensational shops in Town Center, sampling the remarkable eateries at Mission Farms, getting a tech fix at the Apple Store at 119, or soaking in the shops at Park Place (to name a few), you’ll find the shopping in South JoCo will make all of your retail wishes come true.

South & East Kansas City

South and East Kansas City hosts quite an array of unique attractions.  Swope Park is home to the Kansas City Zoo, a premier attraction featuring 202 acres that take you to Australia, Asia, Africa, a carousel, and indoor rainforest, and much more.  Starlight Theatre is also located in the park, and is home to Broadway Theatre and top-notch concerts, bringing world-class live entertainment to Kansas City.  Nestled in this part of town are several luscious golf courses and historic eateries. “Barbeque Heaven”, the Original Jack Stack Barbeque, along with Jess and Jim’s Steakhouse have been attracting the crowds to South Kansas City for decades. Tickle your palette with tea and crumpets in an old-fashioned tea setting – Henry’s Tearoom, located in downtown Lee’s Summit. The eastern portion of Our Town is also home to the city’s beloved sports teams – the Royals and the Chiefs gorgeous stadiums are there filled with avid fans.  Just a short drive from South Kansas City is Longview Lake, a fine locale to spend a day of fun in the sun. The lake boasts 930 acres of water entertainment such as power boating, jet skiing, a lazy cruise on a pontoon, or a sun bath along the beach.  There is much to see and do in this part of Kay Cee!
